My rule of thumb is 2'.

I agree. Every year I hear a HS kid say that he can go 15' because he has cleared a 15' bungee. Yet at every meet the kid is struggling to clear 13' and gets pissed off. Not a good thing if you ask me. In this case it is not totally the kids fault but more on the coach since they did not educate the athlete.
