Dj MY REPLY
If I owe anyone an apology I will make it whole heartedly, but to apologies for what I have observed for 30 years , from a pretty good platform, I think would be unnecessary and disingenuous
.

You do owe apologies because you made statements that are based on observatons and opinion with no fact as a basis to claim that one could jump higher with another brand.

Bruce is right i think dj needs to apologize to the girls if nothing else!! Thats not fair t say things like that. How would you feel if you were the top athlete in the nation and you had someone telling you that you could have had the world record if you used another pole ?? They chose essx for a reason! if they where doing better on spirits they would still be on them!
If you cant do it right , do if 10000 more times till you can

Just my experience on an Essx, I've only jumped on two:
First day I got on an Essx it felt fine, basically like any other pole. I did some five and six left runs and the pole broke, I wasn't under, my form was above average at least. I'm not a huge fan of only being able to use a pole for one day. Just throwing it out there...

poles break, sh@t happens, you have no proof it was a defect in the pole, for all we knew you kicked it on the way up, or dropped it at some point. so to say that his poles only last a day is unfair

i have had many conversations with bruce and find him to be a great guy with a great love for the sport. he developed his poles with a lot of research and experience and people have jumped high on them. so for people to come on and take cuts at his poles with no actual facts is not fair

this whole thing is frustrating to me, its right up there along the lines of negative recruiting. oh that school sux dont go there. promote your own product or services, and dont put others down. its very simple, and very respectful.

thats my .02 anyway. flame away

Hey… you guys are looking at this wrong.. you are making it personal and it’s not.

Not for/to the girls. The girls shouldn’t be taking it personal either. it may not seem like it but i admire and respect them completely.

The poles are a variable that should be looked at. It’s the tool of the trade… just like a javelin, discus etc….We don’t have an Olympics for 2 years…what better time to weight every issue???

Why can’t we use the “discussionâ€Â

well i can agree with the fact the we dont need to fight about this any more. i think maby we should look at how maby it is the way people jump that is the cause for doingbetter on different brands of poles. maby that is why everyone has a preference.

WOW!! I printed and read this whole exchange. Interesting! I know DJ and Bruce very well and they have done TONS for the sport we love. Rule #1 of any cooperative effort is that it's OK to disagree. I've always encouraged my athletes to listen to everyone, then we'll talk about it, and if it works we'll ALL switch.

I'm now nearly 53 years old and jump exclusively on Essx. In my reference on my website at www.bubbapv.com I talk about the great product and support I’ve had over the years from the different manufacturers. I've used virtually every other pole with success. At one point I trained on UCS and jumped in meets on Pacer Carbons because they were quicker. My last series had nine poles (none Essx) from different manufacturers and I liked them all. Its a personal preference thing but I’ve got nine Essx poles and I love their consistency because it helps me to be more consistent. Do I listen to DJ and his opinion on poles? OF COURSE!! I’d be an idiot not to!!

So I agree that we should share information in a constructive way and try every possible thing that can make us better. I’ve visited the Essx plant and I’m anxious to read more about DJ’s view of poles and how they work best. I train too hard not to have every possible edge. On my 53rd birthday, June 24, I will again compete in the Maine State Games on the pole series of a friend – ALL UCS!! That should be a great comparison for me. Jump high and have fun! Bubba

I loved reading all this stuff. So thanks to everyone who posted in this conversation. All I know is I have jumped on a few major brands and I love videoing it and looking over technuque. I don't see a difference of how I jump from pole brand to pole brand. I do have my preference but I have video of my jumps and they just look the from brand to brand. :star:
