Switching my pole

Unread postby Flying D » Tue Jun 14, 2005 1:59 pm

hey everyone my track season just ended, and my best was 11'6 on a 13' 165 usc spirit pole. i only weigh 150 pounds, and i am thinking for next season to buy a 150 or 160 14' usc spirit pole, something along those lines. i really want to break the school record of 13'4 in my school, and get 13'6 or better, but i do not think using a 13' pole thats much more than my weight could do that. by making a switch from a heavier 13' to a lighter 14', i am assuming it will be much easier to vault higher, and probably get this record. does anyone have any suggestions/comments about making this switch that can help me? thanks, any input would be greatly appreciated.

John,

How high are you gripping? How many lefts are you running?

Are you going to pole vault camp? I'm driving from CT (Norwich area) to Kutztown, PA for Skyjumpers camp (www.skyjumpers.com) July 6-9. I know I'll be giving a girl from Trumbull, and guys from Farmington & Manchester rides (I'm taking a van).

Give me a holler if you are interested in going to camp or if you want to discuss this pole selection thing.

hey russ, first to answer your questions about my vaulting, im gripping right below the pink sticker that says 165 on it, about 5 inches from the top. i am only taking 6 lefts currently.

as for the pole vault camp, we have already exchanged emails before (SlipDown87@sbcglobal.net) regarding the club you may be holding in east lyme. i will also let you know soon about going to that skyjumpers with you, i appreciate your offer. anymore help on this subject would be great in the meantime. thanks

i dont see why people would spend as much money as they do to go to those camps for only 3 days. I mean i do know, its Jan Johnson, Its Earle Bell, but really dont you people have club around your area that go on for weeks at a time? I go to a club that is all year round 2 to 3 days a week, coached by a speaker at the Reno Summit. Are these places really so rare?
