layers for taping

I know this has been discussed but not in one aspect (or else I can't find it in the search).

Taping the pole. I go from bottom up, and overlap 1/3 of the top of the previous piece of tape (all continuous) and repeat until I get to the top of the pole. I then repeated the process. Is this two layers. the 1/3 is overlapped because I do not want spaces as I keep wrapping up. Or do I only go from the bottom to the top once, as my overlapping a tad equals two layers of uniform thickness. Thanks. If this was a post somewhere else please refer me to it. Thank you.

Thanks, but that is for sticky stuff...i am just asking what a 'layer' means...

opps srry, a layer is a continous wrap from bottom to top or bottom to top. the overlap from the same layer is not counted as 2 layes, so u can add another full wrap. I personally start from top to bottom for my base layes goin clockwise and my top layer goes from bottom to top goin counterclockwise, it seems to make the tape stay on better.

I think a lot of officials would disagree with you there, and say that the overlap = 2 layers.

i guess, but i've asked officals, and they said 2 wraps is legal, but then again the credibility to this is...i asked officals, lol

My take is that the overlap constitutes two layers per the rule. I wrap my poles bottom to top, overlaping 50%. This provides an acceptably uniform two layers and has the exposed tape edge on the bottom side of the overlap so it can't "roll" down from normal vaulting use.

Once the tape overlaps, that constitutes 2 layers.

I always use black friction tape, and I tape from top to bottom, on the assumption that if the tape is a little thicker at the bottom, it'll help keep my hand from slipping down.

I'm with you on that one. - Its how I've always done it. I've heard the argument that it can 'roll' down the pole causing more than 2 layers of thickness, but I dont buy it - I've never had that problem before.
