I say leave the structure of the box alone. In my opinion a vaulter goes off to the side with a lined up plant when they overbend the pole but are not running fast enough to get the pole past verticle. Since the pole is not getting close enough to verticle it unbends to the side because it takes less energy to go to the side then countinue forward. The only option the pole has when overbending in this case is go to the side, or throw you back down onto the runway, which one of these happens is simply dependent on the amont of pole speed. If you change the structure of the box, it would be easy enough to make the arughment that new records dont count. To keep things fair you would have to have an A box world record and a B box world record. Not only that but you would have to change the boxes internationally other wise if some one who was used to vaulting with box c went to europe and vaulted with box a wouldn't we be making the sport more dangerous? I say find a way to pad the box but leave the structure alone.

As this thread seems to have shifted from a discussion of the SafetyMax to a discussion of my new box proposal, I created a new thread here in the Safety forum to discuss it.

http://www.polevaultpower.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=18964

We should use this thread for discussion of the SafetyMax Box Collar!
