American History of Pole Vault

Unread postby vaultron » Mon Feb 27, 2006 11:57 am

I'm working on a research paper on American History in pole vault. I'm hoping to ask for some suggestion in making a strong research topic. I really have no idea what sorta stuff I should be writing about in pole vault. Any ideas or resources would highly appreciated.

:)

Here is a slight history of some of the records in pole vaulting:

You could go into detail about the different kinds of poles used over the years -- bamboo, aluminum, fiberglass, and now fiberglass with carbon fibers. Also, you could discuss the mechanics of the vault & the equipment used.

I have a photo copy of a great article about America's presence in the pole vault from Track & Field News, May 2001 issue. I don't know if you can still find the issue any place, but it is a 4 page article with some great information about how the U.S. has been a major factor in pole vaulting since the 1800s.

Here is a link to a summary of the article: http://www.trackandfieldnews.com/archiv ... tml#TaleP1
