Unread postby master » Fri Sep 21, 2007 1:28 am

Alan Launder asked me to post this for him. It is a an email he received from Joel Pocklington, a 5.20m (17') vaulter from Victoria, coached by Mark Stewart. Alan thought a lot of you would enjoy it.

OMG! If he ever tries to commit suicide it better not be by jumping off of a bridge. :dazed:

A great video! I especially appreciate being introduced to Nightwish and "Ghost Love Score," the musical background.

That was probably the most phenomenal five-minute anything I've ever seen.

Some of Joel's tricks fall into the category of "don't try this at home", but most are very, very cool.

I especially liked the one where someone on the runway behind him kicked a ball towards the bar, and Joel caught it as he cleared the bar!

And if you're wondering how to train for PV without any gym or vaulting equipment on a slow day in a strange city, then check out some of his traceur moves! He could have done most of the tricks shown on the traceur vid off this thread ... http://www.polevaultpower.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=16608&p=120023&hilit=traceur#p120023.

The videography was outstanding too!

I hadn't heard of Pocklington before, but he's apparently a not-so-bad vaulter from Australia - found a 5.05 that he did. Any higher ... or has he spent too much time goofing off and diving off cliffs around the world?
