PP, I hate to keep beating you to a pulp ... I really do want you to jump HIGH ... but your statements just don't add up.

A couple days ago ... AFTER this meet where you did 10-6 (in the vid) and then 11-0 (no vid) ... you proclaimed/aspired/predicted/aimed ... whatever you want to call it ... that your GOAL was 14-3 sometime in February ... and that your best shot at 16-0 was at NINs.

That just doesn't jibe with "I don't see my run getting better (substantially faster) for at least a month".

If I push the run too hard then my leg is bound to get fussy and all progress will stop... It is finally starting to heal for REAL! I don't want to "over-train, hurt myself, and crash-and-burn with an indoor PR of not much more than 12-0." ;)

E re nata. We'll see how my hammy feels over the next week and I just might be able to do some real work on it if I'm lucky.

 You learn fast! ;)

1. Health
2. Technique
3. Pole flex
4. Grip
10. Indoor PR

1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10! ;)

I have to wonder if that was a test... :P

Off to bed soon... I have an appointment with a certain high bar tomorrow morning... And a mile worth of plant drills later on in the day.

You could use more grip on a pole that is going to bend. IF you are going to have an effective grip hieght around 10'6" with your grip at 11'6", you might as well get it up to 12'3" or so and get more bend out of the pole. Its going to require a different feel than you are use to, because your bottom arm is going to play a little more roll in keeping your alignment (if you like your top shoulder joint in tact, that is), but Honestly, i'm no coach, just a vaulter whos observed myself and others, and i think that raising your grip is going to spark some autocorrective things in your jump, and you will be at 13' in no time. Let your technique catch up to you and see what happens then. Just my advice.... your move  i think you're ready for MORE.

You know Kyle Ellis just recommended the very same thing to me independent of you... I took a look at the whole meet and I am REALLY landing deep. :dazed:

I'll see how I can manage a soft pole tomorrow... I'll get some film.

Didn't get film and you wouldn't have wanted to see it anyway... There was a harsh cross-wind for starters, and my leg got rather trite with me at take-off after a few jumps.

It felt weak, like you were saying it looked KB.

I am getting much better on the bar though... Instead of the plants (the other day) I just did a second high bar session. I'm planning on another one tomorrow morning.

But now I'm in a predicament... Soft poles scare the crap out of me: I feel totally out of control and just sort of curl up and/or bail, which is NOT safe. I had a pretty dangerous rejection today. I am HOPING that it was only because of my leg being fussy! It's fine now, I REALLY went deep with the CFM and it feels better than it did before I jumped today... I DO NOT FORESEE IT BEING AN ISSUE FOR MUCH LONGER!

However, I simply can't have another practice like I had today... It's too demoralizing. I get so frustrated that I start to get a little stupid... Then I just glaze it all over with disappointment and I just feel like practice isn't worth it. This can't keep happening.

If it's soft and you are getting rejected, drop your grip a fist...

What is the series of poles you have available?

A couple big gaps in your range. What pole did you do 11-0 with last week? Which one's your "money" pole?

Which ones are going to be your PR poles for 12, 13, and 14'? And what grips do you figure you'll need for those PRs?

I borrowed someone's 13' 150 to jump 11' the other week.

I am beginning to realize how big of a problem these gaps are... :dazed:

If I were to invest (or have my school invest) in a few poles, what should I/they get?

If I am reading the chart correctly, and i would like to think that I am,

to fill in the gaps as well as create a whole rack...

13' 50, 55, 60. of the same brand with 1cm increments in flex. OR 13' 50, 55, --> 13' 6" 50.. (to train with the longer poles you are about to use... obviously there may be some problems with jumping up a different length in pole when you get to your 14' 45... But (shot in the dark) you are not made out of money, and that way you have a whole range of poles, from tiny to big, that you and your future team mates can use when your gone...
