WAF Stuttgart - Burgess 5.82, Isinbayeva 4.75

Unread postby BruceFlorman » Sat Sep 09, 2006 7:44 am

The webcast started and the very first thing that came up was the mPV start list. But so far they've mostly been showing the women's hammer (where none of this year's top four are competing! ).

The current situation appears to be...

Code: Select all

Pole Vault men
           550 565 575 582 587 592 597 602
Hooker     -   -
Walker     -
Stevenson  o
Borgeling  x
Sawano     o
Burgess    -
Schulze    o
Lobinger   o

Live results are here.

Borgeling needed three shots at 5.50, but made it.

Bar going up to 5.75 now.

Code: Select all

Pole Vault men
           550 565 575 582 587 592 597 602
Hooker     -   -
Walker     -   xo
Stevenson  o   o
Borgeling  xxo -
Sawano     o   o   -
Burgess    -   o
Schulze    o   xo
Lobinger   o   o

Couldn't tell who it was, but waaaay in the background of Moreno's 3rd round throw, we could see somebody vaulting.

8:09 and they're on! We see Toby miss at 5.75.

Borgeling took too long and gets a miss.

Somebody went clear while the women's 400H runners ran by. Must've been either Schulze or Lobinger.

8:18 and we see Lobinger miss (so I guess it was Schulze who cleared).

Now Hooker clears 5.75 on his 2nd attempt!

Same with Stevenson!

Borgeling's having real problems. Aborts his 2nd attempt.

2nd miss for Sawano.

8:25 and Lobinger goes clear!

Borgeling goes out. And what exactly did Stones mean by that comment? "After needing three attempts at his opening height, one wonders why he'd choose to pass at the intermediate height. But after all, he is a pole vaulter." :D

8:30 and Sawano has his 3rd miss too.

Okay, so the bar is going up to 5.82 now.

Code: Select all

Pole Vault men
           550 565 575 582 587 592 597 602
Hooker     -   -   xo
Walker     -   xo  -
Stevenson  o   o   xo
Borgeling  xxo -   xxx
Sawano     o   o   xxx
Burgess    -   o   -
Schulze    o   xo  o
Lobinger   o   o   xo

Burgess is first to clear the new height. And so far the only one.

Hooker has passed all the way to 5.92, and now that Burgess is in the lead, he's passing to that height also.

8:42 and they just showed tape of Burgess clearing 5.82.

2nd attempt miss for Toby.

2nd miss for Tim. It's sure starting to look like an Aussie 1-2 today.

8:52 we see Walker's 3rd miss.

But now Stevenson goes over on his 3rd attempt!!!

Lobinger goes clear on his 3rd too!

Live scoring says Schulze missed, but I don't think we're gonna see it.

Looks like everybody is passing 5.87, so the bar is now going to 5.92.

Code: Select all

Pole Vault men
           550 565 575 582 587 592 597 602
Hooker     -   -   xo  -   -
Walker     -   xo  -   xxx
Stevenson  o   o   xo  xxo -
Borgeling  xxo -   xxx
Sawano     o   o   xxx
Burgess    -   o   -   o   -
Schulze    o   xo  o   xxx
Lobinger   o   o   xo  xxo -

Stevenson bails out on his 1st attempt.

Live scoring says nobody cleared on their 1st.

9:08 and Stevenson has a 2nd miss. And Stones is out to lunch with his commentary. They need to get an assistant into the studio with him.

Burgess almost goes clear on his 2nd, but just brushes it off.

Lobinger has a 2nd miss now too.

Ouch, 3rd miss for Hooker! So much for the Aussie 1-2. It's not like I know what I'm talking about anyway.

Burgess and Stevenson are out now too. So Lobinger's got one shot - either win or equal second with Stevenson.

9:21 and no joy for Lobinger. :(

So everybody passed at 5.87 and then they all failed at 5.92. Did they all have somewhere else they needed to get to early this evening???

Looks like a nice day here in Stuttgart for day two of the WAF finals.

Bruce, your girl Isi is the 8th jumper.

I wouldn't expect her to come in any lower than 460 anyway. But with just eight competitors, she may not get quite so much time just layin around as usual. Hopefully she'll have taken that into account during her preparations. ;)

Going up to 4.50 now after just a few misses.

Code: Select all

Pole Vault women
              425 440 450 460 465 470 475 480 485 490 495
Grigorieva    o   o
Pyrek         -   xo
Spiegelburg   o   o
Howe          o   xo
Murer         o   xo
Stuczynski    -   o
Ryjikh        o   xo
Isinbaeva     -   -   -

8:00 and still no video.

8:06 - We get to see Pyrek go over 4.50 then Spiegelburg miss. Howe misses too. Murer goes over! Stuczynski up next, but they switch back to the men's LJ. Live scoring says she made it though.

Hmm. That was interesting. The live scoring briefly showed Spiegelburg with two misses, then it changed to "xo". I guess somebody just fat-fingered the input then corrected it.

I think we saw Howe go over while the 400H runners went round the bend.
