In the men's pole vault, Daichi Sawano put his no-height horror from last year in Tokyo behind him and won his fifth career title by clearing 5.65 meters.
Sawano, entering the competition at 5.50 after the rest of the field was out before 5.30, made that height on his first attempt, thus exorcising the memory of failing to clear his opening height in 2005.
