ABIGAIL HAYWOOD, left, is reaching for the sky on her way to success.
The Huddersfield youngster, who took up the sport of pole vaulting approximately a year ago, is making great strides as the latest successes show.
A member at Sale Harriers Athletic Club, she has recently won medals at three different championships.
In the Yorkshire Championships at the Dorothy Hyman Stadium at Cudworth, the 15-year-old won the Under 17 women's pole vault with a height of 3.10m in the wet and windy conditions.
At the South Leeds Stadium, she then won the North of England Junior title (Under 17s), with a championship-equalling best performance of 3.30m, again in very windy conditions.
The teenager then competed in the North of England Senior Championships at Sport City, Manchester, taking the silver medal with a clearance of 3.50m, the same as the winner Clare Neve, who won on countback.
Abigail has also qualified for the Englishas Schools Championships, to be held at Gateshead International Stadium on July 7 and 8, where she will be competing for the West Yorkshaire team.
And she is also in hard training for the forthcoming National AAA Under 17 championships at Birmingham in early August.
