David Donegan came close to the 20 years old Irish record of 5.00 m.
Nobody qualified for Berlin.
On 6th place we find the Frenchman Stéphane Beauché. Stéphane is working in tourism which implies changing places every few month. Usually he signs up at the local track&field club. Last year he spent 5 month in Indonesia where he took part in the eastern Java and Papua championships coming out third in the high jump (no pole vault on the program). This year he spends 6 month in Ireland. He signed up at Gorey AC, a club without pole vaulting facilities. At competitions he jumps on borrowed poles. He also helps coaching young athletes of Gorey AC, hopefully teaching them the elements of the Petrov Bubka Model in the sand pit.
