Jones and Ennis return to action with good performances
Vault Manchester, January 17
ON this sort of form, Steve Lewis could be a force to be reckoned with as we head towards the European Indoor Championships in Turin. The Commonwealth bronze medallist opened his season positively, with a 5.60m clearance in Moscow and in only his second indoor outing of 2009, the 22-year-old set an outright PB of 5.75m, which surpasses his previous PB by some 4cm, to consolidate his position at second on the British all-time list.
Nick Buckfield’s long standing British records of 5.81m (indoors) and 5.80m (outdoor) certainly appear a realistic target for Lewis in 2009.
In the women’s competition, Kate Dennison was also in good form, clearing 4.30m, which is only 10cm shy of her lifetime best, whilst Olympic Trials winner Emma Lyons cleared a PB of 4.18m for second.
