Idaho's discus domination

Call it Idaho's "discus domination."

Four Idahoans looked to qualify for the Olympics at the Track and Field Trails in Eugene in July. Boise's Jarred Rome, Emmett's Matt Lamb, Post Falls' Ian Waltz and University of Idaho's Russ Winger all were hoping to throw for an Olympic shot.

Three of the four made it to the finals after their initial throws, and Waltz passed the test and is now in Beijing, readying for the biggest throw of his life.

He'll be able to draw on experience - since he was on the team in Athens four years ago. But Ian isn't the only Olympian in the family - he's engaged to Sydney gold medalist Stacy Dragila.

While Dragila failed to make the US team in the pole vault, she's behind her future husband all the way.

"It's a great relationship he's so positive it's fun to be around someone who's donig so well and it makes me think of where I was in 2000," she said. "He's right on the cusp of doing some awesome things I wish him well because he's worked so hard...he's got a few more years than I do. We trade stories and I've told him the experiences I've had and we just trust in each other and believe in each other."

Waltz will compete in the discus prelims on the 16th.
