Does she need an intermediate height after winning a competition before attempting a World record:

When I feel comfortable, and strong, sometimes I don’t need an extra height between my victory and a record attempt. But sometimes it’s necessary to take the right pole, to feel again the conditions of the runway, or to take a trial attempt before jumping for a World record.

But I’m happy that now with Blanka you can see that it is not easy. That everything has to be perfect.

On technical changes required when changing poles:

I think that yes, of course, now it’s a big difference between my jumps in 2005 and 2007 and also 2006, but now my technique is getting better and I’m feeling more confident but I’m still not technical enough. We are, together with (coach) Vitaly (Petrov) , working in that direction and we will try again here in Stuttgart.

But I feel that it is coming. I don’t know when or where, but it’s coming. I hope that maybe next year, in an Olympic year, that it will happen, maybe three, five or six times.

On the World record (currently her 5.01 from Helsinki in 2005) being her major motivation:

That’s my huge motivation. And also journalists push me because every time they ask, ‘Yelena, when will it happen? la la la..’ And that motivates me. That mean’s that they believe in me and still want to see something sensational. And that supports me to be honest. Thanks, all of you, for that!

1st attempt misses at 4.40 for Spiegelburg and Boslak.
1st attempt clearances for Badurova, Polnova and Feofanova.

Golubchikova clears her opener too.
And now Pyrek does as well.

Now Spiegelburg makes it on her second attempt, but Boslak missed again.

Whew ... Boslak makes it on her third.

At 4.50 Spiegelburg, Badurova, Polnova and Feofanova have all cleared on their 1st attempts. Boslak is passing to 4.60 and Golubchikova missed her first attempt.

Pyrek is also passing to 4.60, so now Golubchikova is up again.

Golubchikova makes it on her 2nd, so the bar goes up to 4.60 now.

Finally Feofanova gives us another clearance!

And Silke makes it on her 3rd! Big cheer from the German crowd. It's her new PB!

Now Boslak makes it! Same for Badurova! The floodgates are open!

And Polnova makes it now too. So everybody goes on to 4.67.

Now Isi is finally going to start jumping. Will she go right to the lead? Nope, she takes the bar down too.

Golubchikova is passing her 2nd at 4.67 now.

I don't know why the radio folk are going on about their "disbelief" in Isi's miss. She blows her opener about half the time. Don't they watch these meets?

Isi up now ... and she's over!

But Spiegelburg is out now with her third miss at 4.67. Oh well, still a new PB today ... and she didn't have to travel too far for her $2K paycheck.

There was a goofy moment on the radio feed a minute ago. I understand why the video folk sometimes "fake" live commentary when showing video from a field event where it was delayed due to a track event. But they pretended to announce Badurova's third failure live, when she'd already gone out about two minutes before. Strange.

First attempt misses for Boslak and Polnova.

Feofanova and Pyrek both clear 4.72 on their 1st attempts!

Isi is passing to 4.77 and it appears that Golubchikova pulled out. Hope she's not hurt.

Oooh, Isinbaeva is passing 4.87 and going to 4.92 now ... which will be her SB. Since she's still in 1st place, I'm sure she doesn't expect either of the others to clear 4.87. But it would sure be cool if at least one of them does.
