Alana curses more bad luck

Alexandra Headland pole vaulter Alana Boyd’s terrible run of bad luck has continued at the 2007 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Osaka, Japan.
Boyd has been plagued by injuries for most of the year and was hoping for a change of luck at her first major senior international tournament.
But when she started to get a sore throat while on the plane to Osaka, Boyd knew things were about to go wrong again .
After arriving in Japan she consulted the Australian team doctor, who informed her she had a contracted tonsillitis.
On Sunday night, the 23-year-old failed to qualify for the final of the women’s pole vault.
Still feeling the affects of her illness, Boyd could only clear 4.20m, well short of her personal best mark of 4.55m.
She needed to equal her PB to qualify for the final.
Yesterday, her father and coach Ray said there was not much else that could have gone wrong for her this year.
