ROSLINDA Samsu believes there is no reason to be alarmed despite clearing only 3.83 metres in her first international competition at the Taiwan Pole Vault International Championships last week.

The effort was far below her personal best of 4.40m achieved at the Mataro International Meet in Spain last July.
Nevertheless, the 3.83m clearance, in her second attempt, was enough for the 24-year-old Kedah-born to win the Taiwan meet on March 12. She beat Amy Linnen and Erin Marie Asay, both of the US, who have personal bests of 4.53m and 4.50m respectively.

"My run-up was short and it affected my jumps. But I’m still in the conditioning phase of training and there is no reason to get worried," said Roslinda, the Doha Asian Games silver medallist, who failed in her three attempt to clear 4.00m in Taiwan.

"It was only my first competition this year since the Asian Games. I can only improve from here and hope to do better in the next meet."

Roslinda, who has booked a place for the World Championships in Osaka in August after clearing 4.30m in Doha in December, needs to reproduce the performance to claim her place for next year’s Beijing Olympics. The World No 33 hopes to reach her near best by the middle of the year in any of the three major assignments this year â€â€
