Pole Vault Men

Romain Mesnil (FRA)
Vencedor

"Esta temporada me estoy encontrando en muy buena forma y por eso llegaba aquí con mucha confianza. El viento ha sido muy irregular durante el concurso y eso me ha descentrado un poco, además del tiempo para realizar cada intento, pero finalmente he conseguido alcanzar una victoria muy importante para mi equipo. Ya es hora de que Francia pueda vencer en la SPAR Copa de Europa".

This season I am being in very good form and for that reason it arrived here with much confidence. The wind has been very irregular during the aid and that a little has put off center me, in addition to the time to make each attempt, but finally I have been able to reach a very important victory after my equipment. It is already hour of which France can overcome in the SPAR Glass of Europe

Conditions for the Pole Vault were again not ideal because of a changing wind. Italy’s World champion from Paris 2003, Giuseppe Gibilisco, looked like the winner when he had cleared 5.65m. The Italian had gambled before, having had two misses at 5.60m, while France’s Romain Mesnil had taken this height on his first attempt. With his last jump Gibilisco then opted for 5.65m and cleared that but Mesnil started a surprise counter-attack. Having missed his first two jumps at 5.65m he went on to 5.70m and cleared this height to win the competition. Gibilisco then tried 5.75m but he could not match the same feat.
