Ryjikh goes out and the bar goes up to 4.60.

Code: Select all

Pole Vault women
              425 440 450 460 465 470 475 480 485 490 495
Grigorieva    o   o   o
Pyrek         -   xo  o
Spiegelburg   o   o   xo
Howe          o   xo  xo
Murer         o   xo  o
Stuczynski    -   o   o
Ryjikh        o   xo  xxx
Isinbaeva     -   -   -

8:20 - Got to see a tape of Ryjikh's last miss.

Got to see Pyrek starting down the runway in the background while watching Val Vili get ready to chuck the shot.

8:27 - Tape of Pyrek going clear.

A glimpse of Stu starting down the runway in the background of the shot. Now she's up on tape. Isi up next!

Isi goes over easily but doesn't look particularly pleased. Stones says it was a pretty poor plant.

Yikes! Live scoring says Isi is passing up to 4.75 now. Will there be anyone else left by then?

Two misses each for Grigorieva, Spiegelburg, Howe and Murer at 4.60.

I'm kind'a slow on the uptake this morning, but I'm pretty sure Feofanova was listed on the start list Friday. I think Sveta must've aggrivated her back again and cut her season short. That would explain Isi competing in Athens too.

Grigorieva and Spiegelburg both out now. What's with all the blue duct tape on Spiegelburg?

Howe and Murer out now too. :(

We're down to this summer's "usual suspects" - Pyrek, Stu & Isi - and the bar goes to 4.65.

Code: Select all

Pole Vault women
              425 440 450 460 465 470 475 480 485 490 495
Grigorieva    o   o   o   xxx
Pyrek         -   xo  o   o
Spiegelburg   o   o   xo  xxx
Howe          o   xo  xo  xxx
Murer         o   xo  o   xxx
Stuczynski    -   o   o   o
Ryjikh        o   xo  xxx
Isinbaeva     -   -   -   o   -   -

Pyrek makes the bar wiggle, but it stays up!

Live scoring says Jenn missed her 1st attempt. Rather than go again right away, she passes to 4.70.

Nice run for Gay (not that it has anything to do with the PV).

So the bar goes to 4.70 and Pyrek is up next.

Code: Select all

Pole Vault women
              425 440 450 460 465 470 475 480 485 490 495
Grigorieva    o   o   o   xxx
Pyrek         -   xo  o   o   o
Spiegelburg   o   o   xo  xxx
Howe          o   xo  xo  xxx
Murer         o   xo  o   xxx
Stuczynski    -   o   o   o   x-
Ryjikh        o   xo  xxx
Isinbaeva     -   -   -   o   -   -

Pyrek misses her 1st (according to live scoring).

Live scoring says Stu missed her 1st too.

The TV director sure spends a lot of time scanning the crowd.

8:55 - We see Pyrek's 2nd miss. Stu is up next with one last attempt.

Ohhh ... so close. But a miss at what would have been a PB.

9:00 - Monika bails out on her final attempt.

So will Isi jump at 4.75 and lock-in 1st place, or go straight for the WR?
(I certainly hope for the former.)

Code: Select all

Pole Vault women
              425 440 450 460 465 470 475 480 485 490 495
Grigorieva    o   o   o   xxx
Pyrek         -   xo  o   o   o   xxx
Spiegelburg   o   o   xo  xxx
Howe          o   xo  xo  xxx
Murer         o   xo  o   xxx
Stuczynski    -   o   o   o   x-  xx
Ryjikh        o   xo  xxx
Isinbaeva     -   -   -   o   -   -

Live scoring says she missed her 1st at 475.

Yet more shots of the crowd.

9:10 - Alright! Isi clears 4.75 for the win. Now, where to next? I hope she tries at least one intermediate height before going up to 50x.

Final standings - live scoring says the bar is going to 4.85 now. Good!

Code: Select all

Pole Vault women
                425 440 450 460 465 470 475 480 485 490 495
1 Isinbaeva     -   -   -   o   -   -   xo  -
2 Pyrek         -   xo  o   o   o   xxx
3 Stuczynski    -   o   o   o   x-  xx
4 Grigorieva    o   o   o   xxx
5 Murer         o   xo  o   xxx
6 Spiegelburg   o   o   xo  xxx
7 Howe          o   xo  xo  xxx
8 Ryjikh        o   xo  xxx

Caught a glimpse of Isi starting her run as the steeplers rounded the first bend. Live scoring says she missed it though.

Live scoring now says 2 misses for Isi. C'mon girl! You can do this!

Rats! Third miss at 4.85 for Isi. :crying:

Guess it's time for me to get breakfast. :dazed:

Here's a funny image that I didn't notice while watching live. Tatiana Grigorieva & Monika Pyrek literally cooling their heels (in the steeplechase water jump) while watching Isi make her 2nd attempt at 4.75 today.

Tatiana fourth in pole vault
September 11, 2006
AUSTRALIA'S Tatiana Grigorieva finished fourth in the women's pole vault at the world athletics final in Stuttgart overnight.

Grigorieva cleared 4.50 metres on her first attempt before missing all three shots at 4.60 metres.

Olympic and world champion Yelena Isinbayeva from Russia won the event, clearing 4.75 metres with her second try.

That vault relegated Poland's Monika Pyrek, who secured a rare victory over Isinbayeva earlier this season, to second place with 4.65 metres.

Isinbayeva did not even enter the competition until 4.60 metres and after Pyrek had failed with her three attempst at 4.70 metres.

Jennifer Stuczynski, of the United States, was third after clearing 4.60 metres.

Grigorieva's teammate, Kym Howe, who will represent Oceania at the World Cup in Athens next weekend, finished seventh on a countback with a vault of 4.50 metres.
