Hye

I think what is continually missed is.. you just cannot take the science or the physics, or what you think is a better “mouse trap” and expect to not have to coach and adjust from jump to jump..…

Every vaulter, not matter what their physical characteristics are, can and will have a slightly different speed on each and every run…

Every vaulter will have to adjust, some call it ‘steering” for the lack of a better word, either by trying to speed up or by trying to “get the feet down”..

Most world class vaulters can “speed” up and increase the strides to the takeoff without stretching and loosing speed… BUT even the world class, ie.. Isi.. and Tim Mack in 2000, can not make up much/any distance outside of 12 inches for the last 6 steps..

Beginners have NO chance to “stretch” and make it… I chose the speed and frequencies for a “X” reach height.. and expected the coach to make the takeoff “out”/”on” adjustments they needed to make, to keep the vaulter in the “mind set” of frequency (get the feet down) and not length (stretch) over the last 6..

The fact that we have few vaulters practicing a “free takeoff” is a direct result of vaulters being “out” at the 6 step mid.. if you automatically move it back based on takeoff point, and not speed, before teaching the vaulter the correct “frequency” you will be fighting a loosing battle…

Tim Mack was hitting one to two feet “out” at the 6 step mid in 2000.. and didn’t make it to the games..

in 2004 he didn’t make that mistake…

ps.. Isi was out by possibly two feet in the final... what was the result???
