Greatest WPV Competition Ever?

Unread postby roger/over » Sat Aug 04, 2007 4:50 pm

With seven vaulters at or above 4.60, I would think this must have been the greatest vault field ever. Can anyone think of a better one?

From the London GP women's PV thread over on the T&FN board ...

Yes. Previous best-for-place for 4th was 4.62m. Last night 4.70m was only good enough for 4th. On only four other occasions outdoors has 4.70m been good enough for third place.

Likewise, Badurova's/Shuying's 4.60m was a new best-for-place for 5th and Polnova's 4.60m was a new best-for-place for 7th. Murer's and Hingst's 4.50m and 4.40m were just outside the best-for-place marks for 8th and 9th.

This was certainly one of the best competitions for depth of all-time!

I believe he means: On only four other occasions outdoors has 4.70m only been good enough for third place.
