Rome GL - Isinbaeva 4.90, Badurová+Polnova 4.65
Two articles were posted this evening on the Весь Спорт site about the wPV in tomorrow's Golden Gala. First we hear from Isi:
[quote]17:37 12.07.2007 – Light Athletics – third stage of the Golden League of light athletics-2007
Yelena Isinbaeva: they’ve already begun to call me Italian
World record holder, world and Olympic Games champion in the women’s pole vault, Russia’s Yelena Isinbaeva will appear in the third stage of the “Golden Leagueâ€Â

From the Golden Gala website:
[quote]Yelena-Jenn, what a battle
This morning, world No. 1 Yelena Isinbayeva and Jennifer Stuczynski took part in the press conference presenting the Golden Gala.
The American athlete is considered one of the main newcomers in world athletics. Her 4.88 performance a few months ago is not a casualty, but it is a consequence of hard training and results are slowly arriving. “To me 5 metres is a difficult measure to approach at the moment. Here in Europe I don’t have my handmade equipment, which I set up with my coach togetherâ€Â

I can hear the wPV intros in the background, but the video is all of the men's 5000.
I don't know if we're gonna get the X's and O's this time around either.
Here's the start list:
BTW, there's also the audio-only IAAF radio available at http://epl.sportev.com/iaaf.asx

AAAAAAAAARG!!!!
No details yet, but the radio guy (Peter Mathiews I think) just said that Jenn had some problem during warmups and has withdrawn.
Update: They've qualified it as "lower back problems", but still no significant details.
Edit: Not that it's real important, but it was Sean Pickering, not Peter Mathiews.

Evidently Arianna Farfaletti Casali had three misses at 4.30 and is out.
Well we got to see Naroa Agirre standing on the runway for awhile, but they switched to the LJ before she jumped.
The radio folks just said April Steiner also went out at 4.30.
They just said Pyrek, Badurová and (I think) Golubchikova have "clean scores through 4.60".

A few minutes ago we saw Agirre miss at 4.60 ... possibly her third miss, but they weren't clear about that (or I missed it).
Unfortunately it Tero Pitkamaki hit one of the long jumpers (Salim Sdiri?) with a javelin. Doesn't appear to have killed him, but it can't have been good.
They're saying that five remain in, that Isi is coming in shortly at 4.65, and that Pyrek is passing at 4.65.

Okay, they're showing Isi's first jump now. And she missed it. Nothing particularly new about that. They said Golubchikova and Badurová both cleared 4.65 on their first attempts.
Radio now says Isi passed her 2nd attempt to 4.70.
Pyrek passed 4.65 and missed her first at 4.70.
Badurová and Golubchikova are still in for sure. Don't know what's up with Feofanova.

Isi's on the runway now. And she clears it by more than a foot and takes the lead.
I was wrong. The X's and O's are online here: http://www.goldengala.it/result2007/re1820040.html
I'm transcribing them now.

Well the radio folks say everyone else went out at 4.70, so now Isi's getting ready to attempt 4.85.
It's a miss.
Now she passed up to 4.90 and cleared it!

I gather Isi is going for 5.02 now.
First time is a miss.
Second attempt was closer, but still a miss.
C'mon Isi, you can do this!

RATS! Another near miss.
Best of the three in fact. But a win is a win, and she's still alive for the jackpot. So that's good anyway.
After the competition was all done they showed Badurová's and Polnova's final clearances. They both looked good, but obviously that was all they had in 'em today.
I sure hope Jenn's injury is nothing serious.
