Howe breaks own pole vault record

Commonwealth Games champion Kym Howe has broken her own Australian and Commonwealth pole vault record, leaping 4.72m to finish second at Sergey Bubka's annual Pole Vault Stars indoor meeting in Donetsk, Ukraine.

World No.2 Paul Burgess won the men's event for the second year in succession, leaping 5.80m to claim victory on a countback from former Australian representative Victor Chistiakov.

The victory for Burgess comes after last weekend's victory in Stuttgart to round off a successful European campaign.

In the women's event, Howe's first attempt clearance at 4.72m added 10cm to the record she set at the MCG in winning the Commonwealth Games title.

Russia's Olympic and world champion, Yelena Isinbayeva, won the competition with a new world indoor record of 4.93m, adding two centimetres to the height set in the same meet 12 months ago.

It is her 20th world record.

Poland's Anna Rogowska was third, clearing the same height as Howe - 4.72m.

Under IAAF rules, Howe's jump becomes the new Australian and Commonwealth indoor and outdoor record. The previous indoor best was set by Emma George in Adelaide in March 1998.

World junior championships bronze medallist Vicky Parnov had a nervous introduction to her first European professional competition against the world's best and unfortunately no heighted.

In the men's vault, Paul Burgess jumped well after rolling his ankle in the warm-up to take the Vault Stars title for the second year in a row.

Commonwealth champion Steve Hooker was finally re-united with the poles he lost when en route to America. However he struggled to re-familiarise himself with his own poles and he also no-heighted.

First, does anyone know what Natalya Kusch actually did?
Second, and somewhat more significantly, does anyone know why Rogowska stopped jumping after her first attempt at 4.82? She didn't hurt herself did she?
