Peggy Ovalle Ties Guatemala Indoor Record

Unread postby roger/over » Sat Jan 07, 2006 5:27 pm

Word is that Peggy Ovalle, vaulting for Lindenwood University, tied her national indoor record for Guatemala (3.20m) in the season opener at Ark State University's "Kick-off Classic" on December 3rd. (I suffered a bit of chagrin at getting this information from a Hungarian track statistician, since this forum has rather close connections with Lindenwood.}

A check of the Lindenwood athletics site shows that Erin Shafer earned an NAIA "B" standard with 3.35m in the meet and Stuart McIntosh an NAIA "A" standard with 4.72m. The Ark State site shows also vaulting for Lindenwood were Kerri Clifford, Darcy Chase, Michelle Yonke, John Ryland, Graham Danziger and (unattached) Matt Clifford.

That's quite a line-up of vaulters for a college with 13,000 students! No word on either site, though, about a reason for the absence of our favorite Lindenwood Lioness. I hope that doesn't imply an injury. Maybe someone closer to the scene can let us know?

I was not a full time student until January, so I wasn't eligible until I started school this week.

There were some mistakes in the results on the guys' side. John Ryland was unattached (but will be eligible when he comes back for spring semester in late January), and Ryan Hays was actually competed for Lindenwood. Graham Danziger never went to the meet, so his NH was actually a DNS.

I would have jumped unattached, but I was in Jacksonville, FL at the USATF Convention.

13K? is that correct? That's more than probably 50 DI schools.

Total school enrollment is around 13k, but that includes grad students, continuing education students (we have several extension campuses), and commuter students.

I think our full time undergraduate population is more like 3,000. It's grown a lot since I started 2 years ago, so maybe it's closer to 4,000 now.
