Katie starts 2012 on a high
Katie Byres finished 2011 with a national pole vault record and starts 2012 with a £1,000 grant from the the Arts and Sports Trust.
The 18-year-old Sale Harriers Manchester prospect (left) cleared 4.16 metres in France to establish a new Under-20s indoor best.
And Byres, one of four Sale youngsters to be awarded funds from the Arts and Sports Trust, only narrowly failed at 4.26m.
However, she hopes to raise the bar again later this month when returning to France for meetings in Paris, Clermont Ferrand and Lyon.
Byres has an outdoor best of 4.20m and was ranked fifth in the seniors last year.
