Weight Lifting Form

Unread postby MightyMouse » Tue Apr 03, 2007 8:11 pm

Someone suggested to me that when lifting on a machine, you should lift the weights up and down without touching the weight stack between reps. I never really paid attention to this, usually my weights touch a little bit Does anyone know the proper form?

What lifts are you doing on a machine? Try to stick with free weights whenever possible.

only do free weights sith the proper form. and it is better to not let it touch the stack, it prevents you from bouncing the weight up on your later reps.

Most that I would usualy do on free weights, bench press, bicep curls, lat raises, etc
I started with machine weights because its easier on my shoulder.(Which I am at the end of rehabing from surgery) Ill make the free weight transition soon.

when using machines, for me it depends on the lift if the plates touch or not. for lat pull-downs I usually don't let them touch, and usually not for leg curls. but for leg extensions, I usually do. I haven't heard if there is a right or wrong way or if one is better than the other tho...

i haven't touched a machine in 2 years and im proud of it! stick to the olympic movements and other freeweight exercises and you'll be stupid strong.
