Hey all,
I am just curious where most people are at in the U.S. with regards to their periodization, getting ready for the indoor season.
Are many people close to working on full approach as meets are starting, or are many back to full approach already?
Also, I am interested in the strength and speed phases as well. Are most people still in base, development, or peak training at this time in December?
In Canada, most of the focus tends to be on the outdoor season, and a lot of people stay short approach right through indoors. We continue to have very few vaulters over 16'6", and I am wondering if the periodization has any affect on this result. There is definitely some talent up here, but I feel that sometimes there is not enough chances for people to jump high.
Thanks,

Well at least for the vaulters i jump with, we follow a 6 week running and lifting schedule, building up to the last week. Then we take 1 week reload and start over. Thats completely separate from our jumping. We began in september just jumping once a week from a short run. We took 1 or 2 long run days just to get the feel in october and november. Now in december, we are vaulting 3 days a week (on top of the lifting and running schedule) and gradually going from more short runs to long runs as the meets begin. In essence, we've built from the ground up and will continue to increase our training up until NIKE indoor nationals... then the rebuilding begins again for outdoor. Im interested to see what other training regimens people have.
The greater the challenge, the more glorious the triumph
