Is kipping necessary

Unread postby euroeva » Tue Nov 28, 2006 7:17 pm

Is kipping necessary to perfect in order to be a good pole vaulter? Our school's gymnastics coach says it's important because you're getting your toes to your head. He has me doing leg lifts in order to get better at kipping. Does anyone have any opinions on this topic?

I've never met a good vaulter that didn't have the core strength needed to be able to do a kip.

It is definitely a good thing to be working on. If you can't pole vault right now but are in gymnastics, get on the bars as much as possible.

There is no 'one magic drill' to be a good vaulter. Kipps are used, as the above states, to build core strength. Being a strong athlete will make you a better pole-vaulter.

There are many great drills to do to sharpen your vault but in general the best way to learn to pole vault is to pole vault...
