hip injury

Unread postby ladycoach » Thu Nov 23, 2006 4:27 pm

My 14 yr old son recently dislocated his hip in football. We went thru surgery and are starting rehab. He is doing great. He vauted last year in
7th grade and jumped 8 foot. Track starts here in tx. in February. What are his chances of being able to vault with this injury. He takes off his
right leg and his left hip was injured. Any good advice.

Ask your Dr. during rehab about strengthening the hip flexor muscles and have him give you a regiment of stretches for the hip flexor. I have seen lot of vaulters with hip flexor ailments. The surgury may or may not have anything to do with the actual hip flexor, but flexablity in the hip region is good to have for vaulters. Core stength is beneficial for someone with back and hip problems. At least, this is what I have been told. What part of Texas are you from?

We drove to San Marcos last summer to the "River Vault" hosted by Lone Star PV.
