diet tips
Hello. I was just wonering if any one on this site has any diet tips for me. I'd like to get my body into better shape and more toned. Most importantly, I would like to start eating properly. So, if any one has an input on what the best diet is for an athlete, let me know. Thanks.

Eat less fast food and candy and drink less soda. Eat more whole grains, fruits, veggies, and lean meat.

Here's another old thread I found: http://polevaultpower.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1095
I heard that if one of the top 4 ingredients is high fructose corn syrup, or saturated fat, you should never eat them, but those are in most candy and other sweets.
just go with Rebecca and eat color in your diet with lean meat and a lot of water instead of other things.

What advice you take is going to depend on what you're going for...are you looking to find healthier eating habits or lose weight or what?
I think that one of the problems is that people don't always eat when they're hungry...sometimes it's just done mindlessly or as the result of a craving. (Ex. You see a commercial for an ice cream shop and then you feel like you just HAVE to have some ice cream...and you do.)
I realized that with myself to some extent (ok, stress can also contribute to it), and I feel better and *think* that I've lost some weight in the meantime just by eating only when I'm actually hungry. Not being able to workout for a good 6+ months probably contributed to that weight and what I still have left, but I'm hoping that in the next few weeks I'll be given the "OK" to start changing that.
If you've got an unbreakable sweet tooth or 'addiction' to some food, you can break it if you really want to. Go about it either by eating it only so often or quit eating it cold turkey...you decide what will work best for you. I haven't eaten fast food in years, the smell of fries now makes me sick, and the closest thing to take-out that I'll eat is Subway or Jamba (and very rarely at that).
I'm one of those people called "vegetarians" who are probably alien to anyone living in Texas, so my diet is probably different than yours. However, I think that bulk will help with hunger in any case. Add vegetables, fruits, salsa, whatever you like that adds a little more heft (even if it is just water and fiber weight) to what you're eating. It's healthy and it will keep you fuller longer.
Give up soda. Go to diet if you have to (I admit to having a diet soda only every so often), or drink juices (beware...these do have a lot of calories...diet V8 splash is pretty good and it's lower in calories). If you do drink fluids with a lot of calories in them (and don't want to give them up), fill up your glass with ice (crushed is even better) before you pour it in...it's likely that you'll drink fewer calories and more water.
In between meals, if it was the case that you were eating just to have something to do, chew sugarless gum...it will keep your mouth active.
Don't go overboard...incorporate things a few at a time...and you'll do fine.

More than a change in your eating habits, it will be a change in your lifestyle. The only way you would have the drive to stay away from unhealthy foods is if you have a reason to eat healthy... whether that be to get a 6 back, do 15 pull-ups, lose 50 Ibs or vault 6.00 meters. It wont happen with just eating, it will have to be a dramatic change in your lifestyle. Just a few things that might help you.
1.) find others in your spot, and make a group of people who you can train with, eat with, have the same lifestyle with.
2.) Make noticeable changes in your life- no fast food ever, workouts everyday, in some way, wake up earlier and have a healthy breakfast.
3.) The hardest part will be the first few weeks, when your body wont want to change the way it runs. Stick with it, and after a month realize that the hard part is over, and never turn back. HAVE FUN!

The greater the challenge, the more glorious the triumph
If you are just trying to eat healthier/give your body more of what it needs, start taking a multi-vitamin. They can sometimes provide the last few key nutrients to make your body run more efficiently. They are all about the same and the generics do exactly the same thing. Vitamins don't need to cost you an arm and a leg!
