My Injured Knee

Unread postby fastpich19 » Tue Feb 20, 2007 7:32 pm

Yesterday I was vaulting and when i landed my left knee popped out of place then popped back in to place. It hurt like hell but I can still walk on it. From what I can see..... and I'm no doctor....... It looks fine, but it does hurt when I bend it or if it gets bumped in a certain place. I usually run after school on Mondays and Wednesday. Monday I had no school and tomorrow I really want to run. Also I have another Pole Vault practice on Friday. I just wanted some opinions on weather I should run and go to practice.

thanks

You should definitely get your advice from a doctor who has a chance to examine you. A dislocated knee could lacerate the popliteal artery, one of the few vascular surgery emergencies. At the very least you need to have your ligaments and menisci examined.

rule of thumb:

if it hurts, ice it and stay off it untill it stops hurting, then stay off it for another few days, then ease back into working out

Knees are not something to mess around with. At the very least, you should get an appointment with your GP (general practitioner) before you try anything more than walking! You can never be too careful (and you have 2 days before you jump again!)
