I know I am jumping in at the end of this thread, but have you had some 'active release' massage done to it? It is quite painful, but would help loosen the fascia, tendons, and stuff around the joint...

A pt gave me an exercise where you lay on a bench on yuor right side near the edge(hang on tight),extend your left leg up and behind you, keeping the leg straight, let gravity pull your left leg downward, relax and hold for 30 seconds.Lay on designed for the illotibial band, but it works great for sciatic sufferers.I was a 15"6" vaulter in 1973.I turned into a ultra trail runner after college,so I have experienced every injury known to vaulters and runners.Tightness in the low back can lead to groin pulls and tears due to tightness in pelvic area associated w/ low back stiffness. This injury occurs generally during the plant phase. To all yong vaulters, very important, low back and pelvic tightness will generally lead to career ending injuries.See a pt,chiropractor, yoga or martial arts teacher to help you.Fly high and good luck.
