Pool Drills?

Unread postby Split » Thu Jul 31, 2008 9:50 pm

Anyone know any good pool drills to do?
In the heat, it makes these drills much more attractive... ;)
I never met a pole I didn't like.

I know some, but I don't know how to describe them...they're inversion drills.
However, contact "VaultPurple" [I think that's the right username] or go to vaulthouse.com and contact Coach Morell. I learned the two at his camp...but I can't tell you how to do them well on here...I can only show them in the water, with a PVC pipe.

The pool drills i have used.

My favorite and probably easiest is just take like a 5 foot pvc or anytype of pipe or pole and put one end against the side of pool in a shallow end, stand on the right side of pole, right hand infront of left and hold like the pole vault pole. Then you simply fall back so that you are in the kinda "V'' position where your shins are at your hands and drop ur sholders and shoot of the end of pole, and once you extend off pole turn and push away. Really works dropping ur sholders. You can also use this with a pvc pipe that will bend and bend it back befor you rock back so that it accualy shoots you away from the wall like a bent pole.

The other drill was in the deep end where coach put a board acaross the corner of the pool so he could stand over water (diving board would work too) then put a long pole vault pole in the water and held the top so that it wouldnt move. There was also a rope with some floats a little over 2' from the pole that stretched across the corner like a cross bar. We then got in the water and you can either hold about a foot under water and do a full swing and rock back and drop ur sholders and turn over the rope, or start a little closer to the bottom of the pool and start rocked back and try to shoot more verticaly upward as you turn and pike over the rope.

I have a video somewhere but i have to figure out how to get it on my computer.. there is a video online of i think one of the VT guys doing a pool drill too.

Haha, yeah, those were the drills I was talking about...I just couldn't think of how to describe them!

Well...the first one anyways, I don't know the last one.

Try some underwater running (with a weighted vest/belt or whatever). I don't know how much it would help with form, but I'd love to find out what you think!

ive never used a vest or anything but i use the pool alot by hanging onto the lane lines and run in place for about 5min at a time as hard as i can, or do high knees or something. It doesnt seem that hard at first, but there is never any rezistance on your legs when you pick ur foot up doing normal running so when i was done i was really sore.
