If I misunderstood the Miles comparison, forgive me. I might have missed the boat on that one. It wouldn't be the first and it sure won't be the last, Ha.

yes but am I tall or short, what about Bubka and Hartwig?

i would say any vaulter who is considered a short person, is a short vaulter and the other way around for tall guys. its not how tall u are it how high u jump.

does anyone remember jacob davis? 6'4" or maybe taller, not much speed. but his plant was amazing, and his grip was high. i don't know his pr, but it was way up there.

Jacob Davis was very fast for his size he had a good take off then double leg swing like crazy on some giant poles.

John, how the hell are ya?? Geoff Fairbanks here. Good to see southland old timers around!!! hahahah! For those of you who dont know, John was a dec/vaulter from Sam Houston State who was pretty damn good!

Geoff,

Man, it's good to hear from you. What are you doing now? Where are you located? Are you still jumping? For those of you that don't know, Geoff kick my rear end his freshman year (if I remember it right), and was/still is a great vaulter himself.

I believe Joe Dial was 5'4 or even shorter when he jumped 19' 4 3/4"

Kjell Issakson of Sweden was 5'8" in his prime (circa 1972) and jumped 18-9 in practice and 18-4.25 in competition using a blue Skypole.

Joe is a deceptive 5'9". He also has an ape factor of about +6". Very long arms for a shorter guy. His funtional height was probably close to 6'.
