Fire targets park, sports facility

Eying the scene over left officials speculating the spark from a passing train might have started a grassfire that spread to a Pauls Valley park and engulfed an athletic storage facility Monday afternoon.

In reality it was two fires that flamed up with the second making it into Wacker Park and near the local football stadium.

The stadium itself missed the fire’s mark as flames instead mostly targeted a storage building housing equipment for the Pauls Valley track program.

The building and much of its contents were lost in the fire, while other parts of the area were heavily damaged such as the pole vault and high jump pits.
