Seattle?

Unread postby DBH027 » Mon Oct 03, 2005 3:53 pm

I am considering a move to Seattle from Northern Cali, can anyone from that area give me an idea on the opportunities that exist for meets, etc.?

I am most concerned with training, you can train in California almost year-round outdoors, however I don't think that is the case in the Pacifc NW. Are there many places where you can train indoor in the Seattle area? How hard is it to get access to them?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated?

Indoors there aren't a ton of meets. UW usually puts on about 3 open meets in addition to their elite college meets that you could probably jump in.

Pat does indoor clinics for the high school kids starting in about November, I am not sure if he would let masters vaulters jump or not.

Summers in Seattle are gorgeous! There are several schools that leave their pits out and coaches who do summer clubs. There are several masters-only meets, and there are all-comers meets every Wednesday that quite a few masters vaulters participate in. Oh yeah and the Tacoma and Alki Beach Vaults are a blast :)

thanks for the tips...I am assuming Pat is at UW, let me know if that is not the case. Do you have any contact info for Pat? [/quote]

They vault indoors in Bellingham most of the winter.

Forgive my ignorance....is Bellingham a college, high school, or town...is there a contact?

Thanks again for any help.

It's a town about 75 minutes north of Seattle (though it usually takes at least 90 to get there with traffic). Dick Henrie works for the Parks and Rec department and does a pole vaulting club that practices indoors. His email is RHenrie@cob.org
