Landau continues to be a high-flyer

Next stop, All-American?
That could well be the case for former Geneva High School pole vault standout Sarah Landau, who continues to climb the ladder at Miami (Ohio) University.
A two-time Illinois state high school champion in the event who set the record of 13-feet, 3 inches in the 2002-03 state meet, Landau is also the indoor and outdoor record holder at Miami. And she's only a sophomore.
Landau and the Redhawks will compete in the Mid-American Conference championships next weekend in Toledo. It will be followed by NCAA Regional competition.
Landau has already exceeded the standard to qualify for regionals three times, and her season best of 13-6.5 currently ranks seventh-best in the nation, first in the MidEast Region and 12½ inches better than the next MAC competitor.
She broke her school indoor mark four times this winter, with the current mark at 13-5. Her outdoor best of 13-7.75 came at last spring's NCAA regional competition. She then went 13-5.25 at nationals, where she was the ninth-best U.S. competitor and 11th overall, one short of earning All-America honors.
