Chelsea Johnson Named UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week

March 13, 2006

Senior Chelsea Johnson (Atascadero, CA/Atascadero HS) of the UCLA Women's Track & Field team was selected as the UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week (Mar. 7-12).

Johnson won her second NCAA individual title on Mar. 11, capturing the pole vault at the NCAA Indoor Championships with a new indoor lifetime-best and school record mark of 14-9. Both Johnson and Florida State's Lacy Jansen cleared 14-9, but Johnson won based on misses. She had cleared every height on her first attempt up until the 14-9 height. Both attempted 15-1, which would have been a new NCAA Indoor Record, but neither could clear. Johnson won the NCAA Outdoor title in 2004 with a collegiate and school record jump of 15-0.

This is Johnson's first UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and third of her career.
