Sharp has found new challenge

For an elite athlete, it can be a lonely feeling as the sun sets on your playing days. Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre and Houston Astros pitcher Roger Clemens, both future Hall of Famers who have reached the pinnacle of their respective sports, are the most recent examples of those who know this.

But, most learn, just because life engaged on the playing field is over, life itself isn’t.

Other challenges await.

Doug Sharp, a bronze medalist in the four-man bobsled in the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics and Jeffersonville resident, wouldn’t have been content sitting on the couch, eating Cheetos and developing a spare tire following his retirement from competitive bobsledding.

Sharp, a chiropractic doctor and personal trainer who co-owns ProFormance Chriopractic and Fitness on River Road in Louisville, has found new challenges, as he always does.

He played for a while on the Louisville Fire Football team. An Army veteran, he toured with the Army World Class Athletes program and visited soldiers in faraway locales. He continues to coach the pole vault for the University of Louisville track team, and is busy with his business.

Sharp tried auto racing for a while, but his new passion is â€â€

Sharpie is the man. great guy, awesome athlete. too bad he graduated the year before I started at Purdue. Would have been some interesting times.....
