Lincoln, Neb. – Senior Eric Eshbach and junior Becky Breisch exploded for Nebraska and Ed Weir Stadium records, as well as setting automatic qualifying standards for the U.S. Olympic Trials, in their only home meet Saturday at the Nebraska Quadrangular.
Eshbach cleared 18-8 ¼ in the pole vault, destroying the previous stadium record by nearly eight inches, and his previous career best and Nebraska school record of 18-4 ½ set just two weeks ago at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.

Eshbach 5.70 (18-8.25)

Just because he jumped 18' in high school, people have all these unreal expectations. 18'8" is a great vault for a college kid.
If he'd jumped 14' in high school, everybody would be lining up to kiss his butt and raving about how great he is. Any kid that jumps 17'+ in HS always has their college career called unsuccessful because they only jumped 17'6, 18', whatever. It doesn't matter when you jumped it, it's what you jumped.
Maybe you should be chastising those 14' HSers who jump 18' in college for being slackers with no work ethic in HS instead!
Hell, Tarasov only improved his best 10.25" after age 18 And everybody knows how unsuccessful he was!
