A MAJOR upset here as Georgia's Fanni Juhasz PR'd to beat heavily-
favored Chelsea Johnson by one single miss. An opening-height
knock off cost the UCLA sophomore a shot at the title as Fanni
remained clean throughout the competition. After that there were
no real major suprises - most everyone came around near their
seed. Other than Fanni only Jennifer Linocln tied her seasonal
best.
With her win the Georgia Bulldogs took a 1 point lead over Florida
who had scored 25 points in the weight throw (1-2-5-6)
Wonder what happened to Jennifer Bennett? Looks like she might have
gotten hurt after her first jump at 4.05

Lewis' Duane Chappel won his third Indoor crown in 4 tries (NH'd
in 2003) to give the Lewis Flyers 10 big points. His teammate #2
seed Mark Zilch didn't fare as well. He had the height for 2nd but
numerous early height misses cost him any chance at silver. Instead,
both Chris Turner of Missouri Southern and Marc Steckler of North
Dakota State stayed clean to tie for second while Zilch had to
settle for 4th.
Chappel did need a clutch third attempt clearance at 5.10 16'08.75"
to take the crown. Had he missed there would've been a three-way
jumpoff for the one spot.
#3 seed Matt Campbell and 3rd Lewis entrant Billy Stadele suffered
unfortunate no-heights

WOW! Hans Schmidt, already a prohivbitive favorite, beat the rest
of the field by nearly TWO FEET and set a new DIII Championship
record in the process (beating Jeremy Scott's 5.50 18'00.50" set
in 2002). This was Hans' second crown having won last year. He also
has a 2nd from '01.
Behind Hans only one other athlete was able to clear 16 and that
was the shocking Chris Swanson. As I mentioned in the preview the
best result I have listed for him previous to this year 3.58 11'09".
Well he beat that by over 4 feet to grab 2nd place
The only senior in the field - Washington's Ryker Jones - grabbed
third. New England's only entrant - William Snyder of Southern
Maine - took fifth.

Saskatchewan's Kelsie Hendry kept her season record perfect in
winning the Canadian championship. She came within a centimeter
of her all-time PR. Don't know why she stopped jumping after 4.20
tho'
Teammate Andrianne Vangool PR'd HUGE - she cracked the 4 meter
barrier for the first time in taking second. The Huskies also
grabbed a tie for fourth when Karolina Nieznalska got her first
12 foot jump of the season.
