CSU Stanislaus vaulter takes 6th
Bee Staff Reports

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Friday was going to be Annie Burlingham's day no matter what. That's what the California State University, Stanislaus, pole vaulter told herself before competing at the NCAA Division II Indoor National Track & Field Championships. Burlingham cleared 12 feet, 2 inches, to tie for sixth and earn All-American status on her 24th birthday.
"Vaulting on my birthday definitely didn't hurt," Burlingham said. "It's only the second time I've cleared 12 feet. I am happy about it."
Burlingham cleared 12-8 in Fresno on Feb. 5. Pole vault coach Tom Brenda said Burlingham had a good week of practice after reaching her personal best.

Burlingham said she cleared her first two heights Friday on the first attempt, which boosted her confidence. She's looking forward to going forward, hopefully with an automatic qualifying height of 12-10 for the outdoor nationals May 27-29 in Charlotte, N.C. Husband Casey Burlingham is the defending outdoor champion.
Burlingham entered the meet ranked sixth in the country. The top eight earn All-American status. Katrina Biermann of Truman State won the indoor title at 13-1¾.
