Late Walk-On Question

Unread postby ILiveForThis8 » Mon Nov 03, 2008 3:29 am

So im a freshmen at college. i originally decided to come to focus on academics, but now that im here, ive decided i really wished i had looked into trying out to be a walk-on. :crying:

Has anyone every tried or know if it is even possible to walk-on in your 2nd year at college, or are you inelligible?

Im really just looking for advice on how i could go about doing this beign that i cant find anything about this anywhere.

You would first go talk to the head coach or vault coach, then they would advise you from there.

I walked on my sophomore year. I transferred to Cornell after my freshman year and then walked onto the team. Talk to your coach though, the roster changes from indoor to outdoor (javelin, 10k, steeplechase), so I don't think its entirely impossible for you to walk on to the outdoor team this year (assuming you are somewhere that has both indoor and outdoor track). Hope this helps, and keep working.

It really just depends on the school and their policies. Talk to the coaches.

Also, If you want to have any chance you need to be registered with the NCAA eligibility center. It used to be that if you spent a year at an institution you were exempt from having to register and pay the fee, but this is no longer the case as of this year. So if you have any desire at all I would first talk to the coach and see if there is any chance of you participating and if there is start your eligibility center process (http://web1.ncaa.org/eligibilitycenter) if you did not already do so in high school. This is assuming that you are at a DI or DII program.

All the better. See if you can jump before the girls and then help put the bar up and catch steps for them. Do whatever it takes. Bring the coaches coffee every morning. Whatever it takes. Make yourself an invaluable utility person. It will endear you to them ... as long as you're not a jerk. lol!! Bubba

Good way to get in good with some vaulter women, too.
