Brinker earns most improved athlete award at Lindenwood

Ryan Brinker, a 2005 graduate of Winfield High School, was recently acknowledged at the Annual Athletic Awards Program held at the Anheuser Busch Banquet Center on the campus of Lindenwood University.

Brinker competes as a pole vaulter on the Lindenwood Lion's multi-time national champion track team. This was Ryan's second year of competition and he increased his mark substantially to earn the team's Most Improved Athlete Award. Throughout the season he also earned a first team All Conference selection, as well as an invitation to the NAIA national championships. He finished his season with a mark of 4.94 meters (16 feet 1-1/2 inches).

He was also recognized for his academic achievements, as he was named to the Lindenwood University Dean's List, and he received an All-American Scholar Athlete Award. This award is given to student athletes achieving outstanding grade point averages while participating in intercollegiate athletics. In addition, Ryan received the prestigious NAIA Region V Scholar Athlete Award for 2007-2008. This award is given to two athletes (one male & one female) out of each of the 12 NAIA regions (24 nationwide).

Brinker is a member of the Lindenwood University Student Athletic Training Association (LUSATA) and is also a member of the Campus Intramural Sports Association. He will be a senior in the fall and is working towards a degree in Athletic Training and Pre Physical Therapy. He plans to pursue graduate studies in Physical Therapy.

He is the son of Brenda Brinker, Winfield.
