DICKINSON - As Kelsey Aide sprinted into a stiff breeze toward the pole vault pit at Whitney Stadium, a handful of Dickinson State men’s track and field decathletes turned their attention to the sophomore and watched as she flipped through the air and fell into the pit laughing.
For Aide, the defending NAIA outdoor and indoor pole vault national champion, the leap was run-of-the-mill material. It wasn’t her best work, but by no means was it her worst.

As Aide walked back to her teammates, contemplating how to improve on her next vault, she looked every bit the part of a leader. Her unquestioned prowess and confidence amongst the men left no doubt as to who was the star of the group.

Still, Aide knows she’s only one piece of a puzzle.



While Aide is confident the women can catch up to the DSU men in terms of success, she knows they’ll first have to catch them in numbers.
