Bounce: Big summer for UA pole vaulter
JUSTIN ADLER
Tucson Citizen
University of Arizona pole vaulter Gabriella Duclos has been so busy on the field that she has not been able to return home to her native Quebec City, Canada.
Duclos, a junior, won the silver medal with her vault of 4.15 meters in the July 6-8 Pan Am Junior Games, which were held in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
When Duclos has not been competing she has been training in Tucson with UA jumps and multi-events coach Sheldon Blockburger.
Duclos just competed in the Canadian Junior Track and Field Championships, where she finished first with a vault of 4.05.
"I won it last year, and I knew I would win it this year," Duclos said. "The competition is pretty low."
She will spend the rest of the summer competing in pole vaulting meets in Vancouver, British Columbia; and Seattle before returning to Tucson on Aug. 9.
