College Pole Vaulters In Action Saturday
By Mountain Mail staff
SOCORRO, New Mexico (STPNS) --
Two former state pole vault champions will be in action Saturday in Albuquerque.
Two-time Class A champion Kelly Armstrong, who red-shirted last year, will be competing for the University of New Mexico for the first time.
Former state high school pole vault champion Robert Caldwell won’t be competing for the University of New Mexico this spring, but that isn’t keeping him from vaulting.
Caldwell, a 2003 Socorro High School graduate, is red-shirting this year and focusing on academics and training.
“I’m stretching things out for a fifth year of eligibility, so I can come back with a nice, easy year academically so I can focus on competition and finish up a degree,â€Â
