Just got this update - worth taking a look !

The new rule language limits the size of the two markers allowed along the runway for horizontal jump, vault, and javelin as well as the high jump approach area. Please note that the individual markers may NOT exceed an area greater than 7 centimeters by 15 centimeters (approximately 3" x 6"). This size limit is applicable during warm-up, practice, and competition.
This is a significant rule change; as the indoor season activity increases, I suggest you make an effort to educate athletes, coaches, and officials about the new limits on marker size in your events.

Marks
I believe the rules say two marks use them where you want. I don't know about other officials, but I check with coaches and athletes and I (as part of meet management) put mid marks down, just like the take off lines. Of course the mid marks are off to the side. Since "meet management" can put down what they feel appropriate, you don't have to use one of your "two" marks for a mid.

I believe the two marks rule is not exactly new, it has just been cleaned up and clarified.
I've never had an official put down mid marks, and I have definitely had problems at a handful of meets (I think mainly indoor NAIAs). I used a start mark, check mark, and mid mark. Luckily, I had several teammates there, so between the 4 of us, we got enough marks down to make it work.
When I was at the Kansas Indoor meet in 2005, the official would only let people use white tape. I colored on mine with markers, but I still had trouble with my check mark (among many other troubles I was having that day) and I think that was one of the few meets I have NH'd in.
