Freshman Alicia Rue became just the third Golden Gopher to better 13 feet in the pole vault in winning the event at the combination Meet of the Unsaintly / Minnesota Throws Meet event on Friday. The meet was co-hosted by Minnesota and Hamline.
Rue won the event clearing a height of 13 feet, 1/4 inch but since it was contested indoors due to rainy conditions, her mark does not qualify for outdoor standards. The leap would have improved her NCAA regional qualifying mark as well as move her to No. 3 all-time on the outdoor list. The Gophers swept the top three places in the pole vault with Andrea Smith taking second (12-6 1/4) and Ashley Nord third (12-0 /12).
