The Batavia-Geneva rivalry is alive and well in Oxford, Ohio.
Once fierce rivals, former Class AA pole vault state champions Sarah Landau and Brittney Bernardoni are now teammates at the University of Miami-Ohio.
That is until Landau, who won back-to-back state titles in 2003 and ’04 for Geneva, decided to transfer after the fall indoor season.
For Batavia alumnus Bernardoni, who claimed the first state title in program history last spring, success continues unabated for the pre-med freshman.
Last weekend at the 24-team Vanderbilt Invitational in Nashville, Bernardoni cleared 12 feet, 6 inches to win the title on fewer misses.
